Stained Glass Master Pieces

The boys were inspired after seeing some stained glass windows at a friends recently. We came home and looked at some wonderful stained glass master pieces on the internet and also watched a youtube clip on how to make stained glass.
This made the boys want to make their own master pieces. So we set out to try.....

I pre-cut some shapes to help inspire the creation. Mr Ed however wanted to cut his own.

Mr K seemed to really take in the patterns behind the pictures we saw. His entire creation was patterned.
While Mr Ed made his own creative space design.
Both of the end results were fantastic. A nice activity to use up any old contact that you have lying around.

Spray Painting

Mr K has been loving playing with the spray bottles I purchased awhile back. We usually use them for water play but it’s just too chilly for that at the moment. So I gave him an invitation to play with the spray bottles in a different way.
Mr Ed was really not interested in this activity at all. I think it was a little too young for him. But Mr K loved it! He sprayed for ages. He was completely covered in paint by the end.
Mr K’s end result was a beautiful table cloth. It looked so awesome on the kids little table.

He then decided he was going to make a café.

He made signs for his café, menus and even took notes of what his customers ordered.
(This reads: Kafe here. Drinks and food.)

Him wanting to know how to write and spell things and having the passion to learn makes me so proud. He’s writing because he’s interested in doing it, rather than because he’s being told he has to. That is why I’m such a big advocate for letting children play.

Loving this journey

BFG

Our local theatre company is performing this awesome story from the book by Roald Dahl.
The boys attend a local homeschool drama class during the week and I wanted to show them what real live Drama was all about. I hadn’t taken Mr Ed to the theatre for years and poor second child Mr K, never!

They loved it. It was a prefect start to what I hope will be many more experiences at the theatre. It sparked the kids imagination to make their own theatre.
A puppet theatre!!!

We used the little wooden people from our Dolls house. The string didn’t hold very well, but that made the show more funny.
I helped the boy’s with drawing different scenes on felt, which they then cut out. Using felt means they could change the scenes easily. They came up with the scenes and story by themselves. Perhaps next week when drama comes around, they will be running out to the car ready to go, without me even asking.

Time on the farm

We’ve been spending almost every weekend at my Mum and Dad’s property. The boy’s just love it, and that's a good thing considering that we will be moving there pretty soon.

There is so much for the kids to do and so much more to offer them. Including, getting free rides in Grandad's ride-on mower trailer.
Or even better….. learning to ride the ride-on mower!! And we are very excited to say that Mr Ed can now ride it completely on his own, without Grandad's help!!

Carrying logs from here to there, picking up the horse manure, adding scraps to the fire pile, the jobs for the boy’s are endless (and they love it.)
From the boys mud pit pool, to the beginning of our new home and new adventure.

Let the journey begin

The last few months

Because it’s been so long between posts, I have so much to write about.  Here is a little about what we’ve been doing over the past few months.

 We made some slime

We did some science…..
(Making bouncy balls)

And more science…..
(we attended a science club)

And more science…..
(Following our latest passion (money), we found the best coin cleaner)

We made our first veggie garden and because of all the rain, never had to water it!

Yet we harvested this freakishly big cucumber.

We had two birthdays…..

And together we made our favourite Lego Ninja piñata.....

We made an ice skating ring for our ever growing collection of Lego characters.

A pretty busy and exciting past few months for this family. What have you been up to in this beautiful Autumn weather?

(Friends....this was written like two months ago. I'm pretty slow with the upload!)

I love this time of year. I could spend every minute outside and I know my children feel the same.

Yesterday we visited a local playground to get out and enjoy the change of season. What always amazes me is that my kids rarely play on the play equipment. They would much rather play with all the natural pieces that surround the playground itself.
The boys made a fire stick.

Kites
Crowns
Telescopes
They weaved little baskets to carry all the seeds they found.

They made tiny houses for the ants to explore.

And a few other bits and pieces.

The day was just perfect.
